Inspired by a piece dated c1551 by a Swiss born cabinet maker known only by his initials H. S. This chest has all the features of Itanian renaissance design from the perspective marquetry panels containing hundreds of tiny pieces of wood to the intricate acanthas carving covering the surface. The chest was originally made in Southern Germany hence the use of pine in its construction being the available timber as opposed to the oak construction of Nortern Germany. The chest contains 3 drawers at its base and a secret compartment hidden within the back panels. The elaborate hinges reflect the famous German ironwork of the period.
