Cabinets of the 1690s inspired this richly decorated piece. With influences from the 'Lowlands', China and England This cabinet represents the prevailing fashions around the court of William and Mary. Designed by Chris in minute detail the cabinet is unique but at the same time takes great care to be as faithful to the period as possible. Veneered with highly prized English Walnut the cabinet is further enhanced by the complicated floral marquetry painstakingly inlaid into the side panels and main doors. The sweeping Pagoda pediment at its crest contains one of the many secret compartments concealed withing the cabinet. The interior is composed of 12 dovetailed drawers surrounding a central cupboard with perspective marquetry. Within are a further 5 drawers (some being smaller than a finger nail) and 2 more secret compartments. The arched base hides a complex mechanism which once pressed opens a pair of secret compartments in unison. The sqare tapered legs lead down to a geometric stretcher and Ebony finiel. The cabinet is made in the best traditions of English furniture with fully working locks, chased hinges and other fittings. Dimensions 148mm high+ 75mm wide+ 36mm deep |
